[APP] Guild Wars 2 Orchestra

Postby speechless » Tue Aug 30, 2016 12:44 am

2 years ago when the flute was first released, I wrote a program to play music sheets. The program was OK, but writing the music was a slow painful process.

Someone introduced me to this website and all the amazing music sheets it has, and it inspired me to come back and rewrite the program to understand the "Music Box Notation" on this site and play it. I like the challenge of trying to make every song on this website playable and as close the the creators music sheets...

It's a personal preference that the moment I have some piece of software that is somewhat resembling something usable, I make it public.
So, expect no GUI and no helpful error messages until the basic functionality is done.

New version with some features actually worth mentioning

0.0.0.7:
Features:
[*] Plays Music Box Notation, you can create .xml files, some examples are in the TestData folder.
[*] Pretty good timing of notes since because of getting rid of sleep in favor of knowing the absolute time of each chord.
[*] Choose between different play styles using the <algorithm></algorithm> thing in the .xml files, "favor notes" & "favor chords", check out the repository for more details.
[*] Can play music using emulated harp (no guild wars required) if you use the -e flag in command line (dear website owner, I used your harp .ogg).

Experimental Features:
[*] Can play .mid (MIDI) files, the math for the chords timing is off, so some songs will play too quickly, others will play too slowly... will fix if I am able to work out the correct formulas

Music Box Notation
Yiruma - River Flows In You : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX8MnCPoaSI
Beyonce - Halo : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xeN7JQqXLg
Wiz Khalifa - See You Again : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kulI_ytfzlI

Experimental ( MIDI playback )
Pokemon - The SS Anne (EXPERIMENTAL MIDI PLAYBACK) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XXqvRbKlnU

Are you suggesting that soon we can import MIDI files and convert them to AHK?

Short answer:
no

Real answer:
I'm currently working on a “MIDI” to “Music Box Notation” converter to help me understand my misconception of music related maths.

I will be making that feature easily accessible because of:
[*] I would have already put in the work
[*] It will give the option for composers to skip the **** work and focus on fine tuning/improving the generated “Music Box Notation” to be best played in game.

I don't see AHK as a usable input or output for “Guild Wars 2 Orchestra”, so I will not be spending any effort supporting that in the foreseeable future.

But nothing will stop you from doing this: MIDI → Guild Wars 2 Orchestra → Music Box Notation → http://gw2mb.com → AHK

I know it's been a few years since this post, and I'm probably just talking to myself at this point but I'm super bummed. I was excited to use this to try and convert midi to AHK but I can't get it to run. The exe crashes on launch every time. I'm wondering if it's because I don't have something installed in my environment that you have on yours that the program is dependent on? Attaching a copy of the error messages I'm getting.

Did you get to the bottom of this, Lightfeather? I liked this app a lot back in the day too.
